On November 13th 2021, the United Nations Climate Change Conference wrapped up its 26th annual meeting in Glasgow. One of the main take-aways from the conference was the fact that all of us have to work together in order to reverse the damage done to our planet in the past 200 years.
One of the issues we are facing is the time it takes to develop any new research into something efficient and readily available. In the development process of any new research are so called “death valleys”, steps where it is extremely easy for the research to halt or be abandoned altogether.
The main themes I wanted to explore were “working together” and “death valleys”.
In general I wanted to turn the flat piece of paper into an organic shape, which could weave and twist through space. I tried different ways
of twisting or braiding the paper, as well as separating the layers of the paper or card, and creating curved folds

I was encouraged to bring typography back into the design. With inspiration from Meta Heaven, I sketched onto prints of my illustration to help me incorporate the text into it. When I had a vague idea of what I wanted, I found an open source font I liked from the website Velvetyne. I chose Anthony by Sun Young Oh and brought back the slogan I had come up with.
This was a challenging experience and one that pushed me to both over-simplify and over-complicate my ideas until I found a balance. I learned many valuable insights from the judges, the technicians, the students from different courses and the lecturers.
